By Joseph Smith You cannot expect distressed houses to look brand new. Not many foreclosures look nice at all once they sell. This is because they sit on the market for a long time. There are many things that you should expect when you purchase foreclosures. These things include the look, price, and what you need to do.
The look of a foreclosure may seem to be run down. The windows wont have been cleaned in months, the yard wont have been mowed or watered, and much more. There wont have been any maintenance on the property at all. This is normal because banks dont have money to put into the maintenance of a home and they wont do it. A foreclosure is very different than a house selling at market value. You have to expect this and be prepared for an unsightly view. The lack of maintenance is usually a low cost. Lack of maintenance is not the only thing you should expect to repair in a foreclosure. It is common for things to be broken and need repair inside. Some borrowers are so angry about losing their homes they may do damage to it. If there were things that needed repair they werent going to spend the money on it if they were going to lose the house. You never know what really is wrong until you do an inspection. The price of foreclosures is a beautiful thing because it is usually below market value. Always compare the local market and dont just assume that the bank is giving you a good deal on foreclosures. It is the banks fault there is such a housing crisis so dont assume they have changed their ways to be good to buyers today. What you need to do to a foreclosure to get it ready for you to move in or for you to flip it must be considered. An inspection is the best thing you can do because if the home is not move in ready they will tell you what you need to do to make it that way. This will help you be more prepared when you purchase a cheap home and make a good decision on the investment.
